Prose Kitchen & Bar
If your team's holiday party is still a "we should figure that out" line item in October, you're not behind — but the good rooms in the San Fernando Valley book up fast between Thanksgiving and New Year's. Here's what actually goes into planning a corporate holiday party at a restaurant, from someone who runs one.
Start with the guest count, not the date
The room you need depends entirely on how many people are coming and how you want them to sit. At Prose Kitchen & Bar in Woodland Hills, we work with a few different spaces depending on group size:
- The Chapter Room — seats 12–22, a semi-private setting good for a smaller team dinner or a leadership group.
- The Manuscript Room — seats 12–26, with natural light and its own dedicated entrance.
- The Novel Room — seats 20–32, or up to 40 for a standing cocktail reception, with its own private bar. This is our most-booked space for corporate holiday parties.
- Full restaurant buyout — 62 seated indoors, 40 more outdoors, or up to 110 for a standing reception. This is the move if you want the whole team together with no one else in the building.
Decide on the format early
Plated dinners, family-style, and cocktail receptions all have different minimums and different rhythms. Plated and family-style service both require a minimum of 10 guests; reception-style events start at 15. Family-style tends to run a little shorter — about 2.5 hours of guest time versus 3 hours for a seated plated dinner — which matters if you're trying to fit a party around an early close for the season.
Lock the date with a deposit, then relax
A 50% deposit holds your date. After that, the only date that matters is 14 days out — that's the cancellation window, and deposits become non-refundable inside 7 days of the event. Outside of that, your event coordinator handles the rest: menu selections, timing, floor plan, and any dietary accommodations your team needs (vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free are all easy asks with advance notice).
What's actually included
Every private event comes with an hour before your start time for setup and 30 minutes after for breakdown, so your team isn't watching a room get turned over around them. Every space has a full house sound system if you want music or a few words from leadership. And if some of your team drives in, there are 24 dedicated parking spaces directly behind the restaurant, plus street parking nearby.
Why book now instead of in November
Woodland Hills doesn't have an unlimited supply of rooms that seat 20–100 people with a private bar attached. The calendar between the last week of November and the third week of December fills first, and it fills from the top down — the best Thursday and Friday nights go first. If your team already knows roughly how many people are coming, there's no real reason to wait on the date.
