Search "private dining Woodland Hills" or "private dining San Fernando Valley" and you'll get a long list of restaurants claiming to have a "private room." Most of them mean a curtain and a hope that the table next to you keeps it down. Here's what actually separates a real private dining room from a corner with a sign on it.

Private Dining Woodland Hills: Semi-Private vs. Fully Private Rooms
A lot of "private rooms" are semi-private: your group has its own defined space, but it shares walls, sightlines, or a doorway with the rest of the restaurant. That's not a bad thing — it usually costs less and comes with a lower guest minimum — but you should know which you're getting before you book. At Prose, the Manuscript Room and Chapter Room are both semi-private spaces within the main dining room; the Novel Room is more separated, with its own bar; and a full restaurant buyout is the only fully private option, with no other guests in the building at all.
Ask about capacity range, not just a number
A room that "seats 30" might mean 30 packed in tight or 30 with room to breathe, depending on the service style. Plated dinners need more table space per person than family-style, and a reception with standing room fits more people than a seated one. When you're comparing rooms, ask for the range across formats — for example, our Novel Room seats 20–32 for a plated dinner but holds up to 40 for a standing cocktail reception.
Check what's actually included
Setup time, breakdown time, sound system, and staffing level all vary by venue and are easy to overlook until the day of. Worth asking upfront: how much time do you get before and after your event start time, is there a house sound system or do you need to bring your own, and is there a dedicated coordinator for your event or are you sharing floor staff with the rest of the restaurant.
Get the policies in writing before you get attached to a date
Deposit amount, cancellation window, and minimum guest count should all be spelled out before you commit emotionally to a room. Vague answers here are a warning sign. Ours, for reference: 50% deposit to hold the date, 14 days' notice to cancel, deposits non-refundable inside 7 days, and a 10-guest minimum for plated or family-style service.
Don't skip the practical stuff
Parking and accessibility get forgotten until a guest is circling the block or can't get up a flight of stairs. Ask directly: is there dedicated parking, and is the room wheelchair accessible. At Prose, all three rooms and the buyout are ground-floor and accessible, with 24 dedicated spaces behind the restaurant.
